Why Do You Need To Exercise?

Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, many country lockdowns and many people stay home and quarantine themselves. Home is a beautiful place to stay, to sleep and to spend time with family, no doubt about that. But if we kept living at home without going out, it’s challenging to be active at home. You can not just clean your house every day—many need to go out and work to make money for living. Working and being active is part of our lifestyle. 

For some peoples, they are still lucky if their job allows them to work from home. Conference meetings using the zoom, Whatsapp, Skype, Google Meet are widespread use nowadays. For online entrepreneurs, since their primary working tool is using a laptop or computer, this may not impact their business so much. 

Beside works or business, another type of physical activity that should not take for granted is ‘Exercise”. We can’t just be sitting in front of our computer screen from morning until late afternoon or evening. We need to do Exercise to improve our health. In short, to enhance our quality of life.

Why Is It Necessary To Exercise?

Whenever we discuss the importance of Exercise, the very first thing in many people’s mindsets, doing Exercise, is to help people lose their weight, especially for obesity problems. Yes, I do agree that Exercise makes us slim and look good.

However, according to many experts, Regular Exercise can also help us to decrease the risk of developing certain diseases, such as; diabetes, cancer, heart attack, high blood pressure, and many more.

Statistics have shown that those who have such conditions are easier to be attacked by the virus. Let’s assume you don’t have any of the diseases mentioned earlier. However, you still affected by any viruses, your body will have the ability to fight the infection, and you will gain back your health if you are a person who is doing Exercise regularly. 

Should You Be Active Every day?

I would say the answer is yes. It is one of the reasons I decided to bring this topic today. Recently, a friend of mine has a video call with me. He told that ever since he has to quarantine at home for over one month, his weight has been increasing over 10kg. My advice to him is to start doing some exercise at home. Practically, an adult should do at least half an hour to one hour exercise a day.

If you have not done Exercise for quite some time already, I suggest you may start again for at least 10 minutes, then slowly increase your exercise time to 20 minutes, then 30 minutes, then one hour. Do not start doing for one hour; it may cause you too tired.

Assuming you try to do pushups at home, start with the amount of time that you can do first, then increase the next day slowly. If your maximum is 20 pushups each time, set a goal to do at least 200 a day, but do it separately after a few hours. 

What Are The Purposes Of Exercise?

The primary purpose is to build aerobic power. You need to Exercise to get more oxygen to your body’s tissue. For instance, when your body shortage of oxygen, you will feel very tire quickly when you walk up to a building by the staircase, having a walk in a mountain or in case you have to run from a robber.

In other words, it helps you to improve your breathing. Other purposes are to reduce your blood pressure, body fat, build your muscle mass, make your bone more durable, improve your immune system. 

Is Too Much Exercise Bad For You? 

I would say Yes. Over-exercise can only give you the worst result rather than the actual benefits, it may lead to your back injuries, or you may get damaged in a specific part of your body’s tissue. You will feel overtired and losing focus.

Do not forget that you still need to keep some of your energy for doing other things too. If you try to slim down by exercising too much, then you may need to do more Exercise, I mean need to do every day. But at the same time, you also need to watch what you put into your body. 

What Should You Do If You Don’t Like To Exercise?

Well, Firstly, you need to create interest. Perhaps, you may ask your partner to do the Exercise together with you. Or listen to your favorite music while exercising. Secondly, you need to change your mindset. Think of all the possible illnesses for those who are hardly doing Exercise.

Another method is, get a large poster of a few famous athletes that show their beautiful body with a lot of muscles and put those posters on your wall.

What Are The Type of Exercises That You Can Do At Home? 

My favourite are pushups and plank. Other kinds of Exercise would be: 

  1. Bent-Knee Sit-up or Crunches. 
  2. Front Plank. 
  3. Side Plank with Straight Leg
  4. Dumbbell Lifting 
  5. Yoga
  6. Squats, and many more… 

In theory, the type of Exercise at home primary is to use your body weight while exercising. The are many resources available on the internet too. For example, you may check on this 28 Day Workout plan.  

My conclusion: 

Most importantly, remember to always listen to your body. You know your body better than anyone else. If you are often feeling tired, your body will tell you the reason it is due to you have been physically less active? or it is time for you to get some rest first and workout again the next day?

Whatever reason, the bottom line is, Exercise is an activity that should not be avoided and should not give an excuse not to do it.
